The Story of Trinity Baptist Community Church More than 17 years ago, Bishop Dr. Michael Love moved his family to McHenry County in northern Illinois and decided to start a Bible study, as a way of bringing all people together in a relational study of God’s word. The Loves had no idea how much that Bible study would change their lives. The group quickly outgrew the Loves’ living room, and moved into the gym at the Oak Knoll Elementary School. Soon people were coming from six different counties to gather in the school gym for church. Before long, Trinity Baptist Community Church had an official name and mission statement and there were 200 people coming for Sunday morning worship and over 90 ministries serving locally, regionally, nationally, and worldwide. And it’s not only African-Americans who call Trinity their home. People of all cultures and backgrounds are invited in and accepted here, because this is a family place—where no one is left out in the cold and no one is turned away. There is a warmth and energy here that is almost tangible—people are hugging people everywhere on a Sunday morning. People are even hugging people that they don’t know. It doesn’t matter if no one knows your name yet—you’re still part of the family! It’s as if the love of God upon which this church was founded just cannot be contained. It spills over from the pastor to the deacons, to the choir, to the ushers, to the children, and the guy who just walked in the back door. It’s an environment that cannot be adequately described—you just have to come and see for yourself. |
